Nikon P7000 unveiled

Nikon has just come over all official with its new P7000 compact. But this is no basic point and shoot, instead rocking the kind of skills we’re used to seeing on swanky DSLRs.

As well as a super sharp 7.1x optical zoom with Vibration Reduction, the P7000 is loaded up with 10.1 megapixels and ISO up to 3200 baked inside too. It even has a dedicated Noise Reduction function for tinkering with shots taken in low light.

Manual controls abound, meaning this is a snapper perfect for those who want to take their snaps to a new level but don’t fancy lugging around a hefty professional peeper. That means RAW support is built in, as well as Nikon’s Picture Controls feature from its SLRs, which allows you to take pics with varying settings and choose the best one.

720p video is also on board, as is an HDMI port for beaming your clips straight to your TV. And you can even edit images on the camera’s 3-inch panel, letting you tweak tone and shadows on your handiwork.

The P7000 is up for grabs from 23 September for £489. Best get the credit card out as this one looks like a keeper. For more, keep it locked to our Facebook and Twitter pages.

Apple Game Centre: iPhone 3G locked out

Apple has confirmed that the iPhone 3G will not support its new Game Centre offering when it lands as part of iOS 4.1 later today.

The two-year-old blower has been affected by slow performance since its bump to iOS 4 and as such will be the only Apple device which supports the latest version of Apple’s mobile operating system not to get Game Centre.

However, the 2nd generation iPod touch will play nice, despite Jobs and co telling devs recently that it too would be left in the cold. Just how snappy it will be on old hardware, however, remains to be seen.

Apple is hoping to gazump Xbox LIVE on the forthcoming Windows Phone7, a feature which will doubtless grab plenty of headlines when Microsoft’s mobile OS finally launches next month.

Looking forward to Game Centre? Or just can’t see the point? Tell us your thoughts on our Facebook and Twitter pages.

News@8: iPod Touch now shipping and Google TV

It's been another busy day for the tech world - here's the best of the day's news in digestible format:

Android Honeycomb confirmed: Samsung's President JK Shin has confirmed that Android Honeycomb would be featuring on the next Samsung tablet, helping to confirm not only the OS' existence but also how close it was to production. Elsewhere Android has been suffering teething problems after O2 has pulled the FroYo update for the HTC Desire after it encountered severe problems with users. This was then shadowed after complaints arose over the Dell Streak Android 2.1 update which also appears to be having teething problems.

Apple iPod Touch arriving sooner than first thought: Mac-focused website 9 to 5 Mac has confirmed that shipping has already started for the New iPod Touch, UK customers can expect to start seeing theirs around 15 September. Just in time for the arrival of your brand new iPod Touch is the new version of Nike + GPS app which uses GPS and disposes of the sensor previously needed to record your times, instead using tech built into the iPod Touch and iPhone.

Google TV could be coming 'soon': Eric Schmidt, the CEO of Google Inc has confirmed that Google TV beta could well be appearing on Sony Televisions in the coming months. This comes after Samsung and Sony have both said they were looking at ways to incorperate Android into their latest sets. Joining its plans to take over the world is Google's rival service to iTunes which has been touted at a pre-Chrismas release.

Intelligent stamps for your phone: The Royal Mail has developed a series of 'Intelligent Stamps' which, when scanned by an iPhone or Android handset will unleash an array of exclusive content. The stamps have been created to try and encourage the 'youth of today' to start sending letters again and enjoy the process. Well whilst we love the idea of having something fun to accompany your potential phone bill, it might take some persuading.

Google TV to be joined by Android TV on Sony sets soon

Google's Eric Schmidt has confirmed that Google TV a platform being developed in conjunction with Sony and Intel could well be appearing on TV's very soon.

Google TV is essentially a platform that would be bolted onto new TV sets enabling customers to browse the internet, check their emails and watch YouTube all through WiFi or ethernet, both of which are now common components on both high-end and mid-range TV's.

Its also been confirmed that both Samsung and Sony are contemplating using Android as an operating system for their next range of TV's. Whilst this is a wholly exciting prospect, Google faces a tough climb to get its Android system as popular on TVs as it is on smartphones. Widgets have become increasingly popular on HD and 3D HD TVs, in fact our very own T3 Readers Poll showed that customers actually wanted the internet on their TV more than having 3D.

You may have to wait a few months before you see Android appearing on your next TV, however if Google TV's beta period is successful we can all be watching internet based hilarity on our TVs sooner than we thought.

The general consensus is that Honeycomb will only be appearing on tablets thanks to it's high requirements. Whilst we can expect to see gingerbreak making an appearence on not only the Samsung Galaxy Tab but also on some smartphones that have the processing grunt to do it justice; prime examples being the HTC Desire or hugely popular Samsung Galaxy S.

Are you looking forward to Gingerbread, or have you only just got to grips with Android 2.2 FroYo, let us know on Facebook and Twitter.

Royal Mail launches intelligent stamps for iPhone app

Royal Mail are hoping to encourage email-obsessed smartphone owners to use the not-so-trusty red post boxes more often by launching interactive stamps for use with an iPhone and Android application.

Scanning the new stamps, using the free Juniao application will launch exclusive content from the Royal Mail channel in the phone's browser.

The first set of stamps to feature the new tech will be a depiction of Great British Railways, featuring a short film and a poem commissioned by Royal Mail.

The company hopes to attract a modern audience and bring stamps back to the public eye once more.

It's a cool idea, although at 41p for a first class stamp, constant threats of strike action and the uncertainty of whether your letter's actually going to get there, it's going to take a little more than a video and a poem for us to ditch email just yet.
